India added 5.4 GW of utility-scale solar capacity between July and September, down from 6.87 GW in the previous quarter and 12.12 GW in January to March, according to JMK Research.

Counting rooftop and off-grid installations, India added 35.2 GW of solar in the first nine months of 2026, about 19.5% more than a year earlier. Rooftop solar made up about 28% of that, around 9.8 GW. Wind additions were 4.69 GW, down about 5.5%.

Gujarat and Rajasthan accounted for about 55% of new solar and wind capacity. India’s total renewable capacity is about 299 GW.

JMK expects another 10 to 12 GW of solar and wind to be added between October and December.
